Cub Scouts can learn a lot indoors—but nobody joins Scouting for the fluorescent lighting.

Camping is where a lot of the best parts of Scouting come together. It’s where Scouts learn to be a little more independent, discover that dirt washes off, find out that food somehow tastes better outside, and make the kind of memories that don’t usually happen sitting around a table.

Fall Family Adventures is a council-wide Cub Scout camping weekend designed for the whole family. Cub Scouts from Kindergarten through 5th grade can attend along with parents, guardians, siblings, and even extended family.

• Where: Camp George Thomas – Apache, Oklahoma
• Theme: Celebrating 100 Years of Route 66
• Cost: $45 per Cub Scout; $25 for adults and siblings age 6+
• Meals: All meals Saturday plus Sunday breakfast are included
• Pack 94 Registration Deadline: September 14

Campers arrive Friday evening beginning at 5:00 PM and camp through Sunday morning. The weekend includes organized Cub Scout activities, time around camp, a Saturday night campfire, and plenty of opportunity to simply enjoy being outdoors together.

Don’t wait to register! Fall Family Adventures can fill up, and space is limited. Registration is completed directly through the District’s event website, so we strongly recommend signing up as early as possible and no later than Pack 94’s September 14 deadline.

Webelos Woods is something different—and especially important for our older Cub Scouts.

This weekend is specifically for Webelos (4th graders) and Arrow of Light Scouts (5th graders) to get a first-hand look at what comes next after Cub Scouting. Scouts camp with a Scouts BSA troop, participate as members of the troop, rotate through activities hosted by different troops, experience a Scouts BSA-style campfire, and participate in an interfaith service.

Parents also get an opportunity to learn more about the Scouts BSA program while watching their Scouts experience the next level of Scouting.

• Who: Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts and their parents/leaders
• Cost: $25 ($15 Registration & $10 Pack/Troop Food Cost)
• Pack 94 RSVP Deadline: September 4

Pack 94 will be hosted by Scouts BSA Troop 94 for Webelos Woods. The event requires each Pack to submit a single Pack-wide registration, so all Webelos and AOL Scouts attending are required to RSVP to Pack 94 by September 4. Pack 94 will then coordinate and submit our registration for the entire group.

Saturday will include youth-led activities hosted by participating Scouts BSA troops, followed by dinner and the evening program. Saturday dinner is provided for registered participants.

Ahead of any camping experience, there are a few things families need to take care of before heading to camp. Even if you have camped with Scouts before, new health forms are required every year.

All youth and adults attending a Scouting campout (including parents) must have a current Scouting America Annual Health & Medical Record on file.

Completed Health Forms should be emailed to [email protected] or delivered in print to your Den Leader.

All adults age 18 and older attending a Scouting campout (including parents) must complete Safeguarding Youth Training.

Proof of completion should be emailed to [email protected] or delivered in print to your Den Leader.

Don’t let a missing tent—or the cost of buying a pile of camping gear—keep your family from camping. Pack 94, Troop 94, and individual Scouters have camping equipment available to borrow, and we’re happy to help get families outfitted.

For a typical family campout, plan on bringing:

• Tent, stakes, and ground tarp
• Sleeping bags and sleeping pads or air mattresses
• Pillows
• Camp chairs
• Flashlights or headlamps with extra batteries
• Weather-appropriate clothes and extra layers
• Pajamas and extra socks/undergarments
• Comfortable closed-toe shoes
• Rain jacket or poncho
• Hat
• Refillable water bottles
• Sunscreen
• Insect repellent
• Towel and washcloth
• Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, and other toiletries
• Personal medications
• Small daypack or backpack
• Optional snacks and a little spending money for the trading post

You do not need fancy camping equipment to have a great weekend. Bring what you have, borrow what you don’t, and come camp with us.
