About Scouting Costs

Overview

We want families to know what to expect when joining Pack 94. Cub Scouting has a few different costs throughout the year including annual recurring dues.

We work hard to keep the program affordable while providing Scouts with a fun, active, and memorable experience. Below is an overview of the typical costs for a year of Cub Scouting with Pack 94.

1) Scouting America Membership: $185

2) Pack 94 Dues: $40

3) Cub Scout Uniform - Class A: $110 to $170

4) Cub Scout Uniform - Class B: $10

5) Camping: $45 to $55

Every Cub Scout is registered with Scouting America. The annual membership fee supports the national and local council programs that make Scouting possible, including program resources, training, insurance, council operations, and access to Scouting properties and facilities.

Membership is generally valid for 12 months from the Scout's registration date.

Families register and manage their Scouting America membership through my.scouting.org.

In addition to the Scouting America membership fee, Pack 94 collects annual Pack dues to help cover the cost of running our local Cub Scout program. Our goal is to use Pack funds to provide as much of the regular Scouting program as possible without families having to pay separately for every activity.

Pack dues help pay for items such as:

• Rank badges, adventure recognition, and awards earned by Scouts
• Supplies for Pack meetings and activities
• Equipment used by the Pack
• Pinewood Derby and other Pack programs
• Other expenses needed to provide a great year of Scouting

The Cub Scout uniform helps create a sense of belonging and gives Scouts a place to proudly display the achievements they earn throughout the year.

At Pack 94 we encourage the Class A uniform shirt, and the rest is optional.

Uniform items can be purchased through the Scout Shop, and families are also welcome to ask Pack leadership about used uniform items that may be available.

Depending on your Scout's rank and the uniform pieces purchased, costs may include:

• Official Cub Scout uniform shirt
• Rank-specific neckerchief
• Neckerchief slide
• Belt
• Cap
• Required patches and insignia
• Optional official pants or shorts

A Class B Pack t-shirt is a casual, comfortable shirt, typically worn during outdoor activities, service projects, or events where the official uniform (Class A) might get dirty or isn’t practical. It helps create a unified look for the Pack, promotes Pack spirit, and allows Scouts to represent their group in a relaxed, functional way while still being easily identifiable.

Parents are encouraged to wear them as well at Scout events!

Camping is one of the highlights of Cub Scouting!

Pack 94 participates in camping trips and other special activities throughout the year. Some of these events may have an additional registration, admission, campsite, or meal cost that is not included in annual Pack dues.

Actual costs vary depending on the event, location, number of nights, meals, and registration fees.

Pack 94 will communicate event costs as early as possible so families have time to plan. Participation in individual camping trips and special events is generally optional, although we encourage every Scout family to experience camping with the Pack!

Fundraising Helps Keep Costs Down

Pack 94 participates in a couple short run fundraising activities throughout the year to help support our Scouting program and keep out-of-pocket costs for families as low as possible.

Funds raised by our Scouts help support Pack activities, equipment, awards, events, and other program expenses. Fundraising also gives Scouts an opportunity to participate in supporting their own Scouting experience while learning responsibility, communication, and goal-setting.

Financial Assistance & Sponsorship

We never want cost to be the reason a child misses out on Scouting. If your family needs additional financial support or sponsorship to help with membership fees, Pack dues, uniforms, camping, or other Scouting expenses, please reach out to Pack 94 leadership.

We encourage families to ask—support may be available, and all requests will be handled respectfully and discreetly.

Military Family Membership Waiver

Scouting America has introduced a new Military Family Fee Waiver to make Scouting more accessible for families who serve our country. Beginning June 1, 2026, eligible youth with a parent or guardian currently serving in Active Duty, the Reserves, or the National Guard can have the $85 national youth registration fee waived, reducing that portion of their membership cost to $0.

The waiver is available for both new and renewing youth members who register online. During registration, families can select “Get Military Discount Code,” complete the verification process, and enter the provided code at checkout. Local council fees, Pack dues, processing fees, and optional items such as Scout Life magazine are not included in the waiver.
